Day 1: Arrival in New Delhi
Welcome to India! Upon arrival at New Delhi International Airport, meet our representative and transfer to your hotel. Take the day to rest and prepare for your upcoming birding adventure through Northeast India.
Day 2: New Delhi – Guwahati – Nameri National Park
After an early breakfast, fly to Guwahati in Assam and transfer to Nameri National Park, a birding gem in Northeast India. En route, stop at a renowned village dump yard that supports the largest known population of Greater Adjutant Storks, alongside Lesser Adjutants, Asian Openbills, and other wetland birds like Citrine Wagtails, Striated Grassbirds, and Yellow-bellied Prinias. Overnight at a lodge near Nameri.
Day 3: Birding in Nameri National Park
Explore the pristine forests of Nameri, adjacent to the Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary. Seek the elusive White-winged Duck, and spot specialties such as the Blue-bearded Bee-eater, Velvet-fronted Nuthatch, Common Green Magpie, White-rumped Shama, and hornbills like the Wreathed and Great Hornbill. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Nameri to Dirang (Sangti Valley)
Drive north into Arunachal Pradesh toward Sangti Valley, passing through bamboo forests and subtropical broadleaf landscapes. Target species include Grey-headed, Pale-billed, and White-breasted Parrotbills, Streak-throated Barwing, Golden-breasted Fulvetta, Broad-billed Warbler, White-hooded Babbler, and Pale-headed Woodpecker. Reach Dirang by evening and settle in for the night.
Days 5–7: Mandala Phudung & Sela Pass Birding
Spend three immersive days birding the high-altitude Himalayan zones of Mandala Phudung and Sela Pass (up to 13,800 ft). Key sightings include the Himalayan Monal, Blood and Kalij Pheasants, Snow and Hill Partridges, Fire-tailed Myzornis, Spotted Laughingthrush, Wallcreeper, Himalayan Cutia, Grandala, Golden Bush Robin, and Snow Pigeons. Savor the spectacular alpine scenery as you track both resident and migratory high-altitude species.
Day 8: Dirang to Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary
Enjoy a final morning birding in Dirang, with chances to see Black-tailed Crake, Blyth’s Kingfisher, and the elusive Long-billed Plover. Continue to the legendary Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary, one of India’s top birding destinations, known for its altitude gradient and biodiversity. Afternoon birding en route offers possible sightings of Short-billed Minivet, Spot-winged Grosbeak, and Striated Yuhina.
Days 9–13: Birding in Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary
Spend five full days exploring the rich habitats of Eaglenest, ranging from 500 to 3,200m. Highlights include the Bugun Liocichla (endemic and recently discovered), Ward’s Trogon, Purple and Green Cochoas, Rufous-necked Hornbill, Beautiful Nuthatch, Fire-tailed Sunbird, Gould’s Shortwing, Sikkim Wedge-billed Babbler, and Temminck’s Tragopan.
Expect mixed flocks of Sultan Tit, Black-throated Sunbird, Rufous-backed Sibia, Mrs Gould’s Sunbird, Slaty-backed Flycatcher, Chestnut-headed Tesia, and many laughingthrushes including Scaly, Blue-winged, and Striated. The diversity here makes it a birdwatcher’s paradise.
Day 14: Eaglenest to Tezpur
Enjoy one final morning of birding in the lower elevations of Eaglenest before heading to Tezpur. Stop along the way in Sangti Valley to search again for any missed species like Long-billed Plover or Blyth’s Kingfisher. Overnight in Tezpur.
Day 15: Tezpur – Guwahati – New Delhi
After breakfast, drive to Guwahati and catch your flight back to New Delhi. Transfer to your hotel and relax for your final night in India.
Day 16: Departure from New Delhi
Your incredible birding tour in Northeast India concludes today. Transfer to the airport for your onward flight home, taking with you memories of rare birds, breathtaking landscapes, and unmatched biodiversity.
